Uh . . . What?
OK, so I take Charlie in to see the vet because he hurt his foot. I’m in there to get he bloody little claw looked at and I need to make an appointment for later in the week for his check-up and rabies shot. Got it? OK.
Yeah, my vet is insane. Look, I know she was trying to help. It was a great idea to test him for diabetes. It was wonderful that she referred me to a neurologist.
Here’s my issue: she told me that the only other thing she knows of besides diabetes that can cause his problems is . . . freaking rabies. Rabies, people!
Look, I’ve seen Cujo and I know what rabies means. It means Hubby and I are going to be stuck in a car while rabid Charlie tries to get in and kill us! It’ll be hot and we’ll run out of water and Charlie will be trying to get through the windows at us! Look at him, for god’s sake! He’s a vicious killing machine!

Or he’s chairman of the board and is about to start a meeting to discuss the company’s finances. Hubby wants to get him a little bow tie so he’ll look professional at his window meetings with the squirrels.
Well, needless to say, I’m a little unsure of the rabies statement from the vet. She now thinks that rabies is not likely–he was at the SPCA for 5 months before we adopted him and his personality and disorder remained the same throughout. Of course, we’re still keeping him away from Cassie and we’ll be seeing another vet soon. But . . . damn! Talk about a shock!
I was slightly worried when I picked him up after the rabies phone call. I became less worried after the vet told me that it was unlikely (you think?!).
When Charlie sat on the couch like a little person—with his legs sticking out in front of him—my doubts pretty much disappeared. Of course, he does love to rub up on our legs and he likes to flop down onto the floor so we’ll pet him—these could all be signs of a dangerous animal.
But the vet was only doing her job . . . of freaking me out.
Up date: Cassie is no longer hissing at us all. Plan to introduce new life-form into the home may be working. Will keep you updated unless killed by female cat.
