Something I Saw Today That Kind of Freaked Me Out But I Didn’t Have a Camera and So I Couldn’t Get Proof of It.
The Ben Stiller character from The Royal Tenenbaums. And the creepy little kids. Sweatsuits all around.
Sigh
Recently, a major female comic book blogger started moderating her comments. I know nothing of the apparent Internet slap fight that has been going on but some people are claiming that she’s moderating to stop dissenting opinions from showing up.
Now, I’ve been reading some of the blog entries about this and in the comments section, I’ve noticed something. Among all the nonsense about she did this or he said this, no one is bringing up what I think is an obvious point: she’s female.
Now, not every comment on her blog is anti-woman, misogynistic, or whatever. But there is evidence to suggest that female bloggers are targeted. They are silenced. You can roll your eyes all you want but the fact of the matter is that many female bloggers are targets of violent and/or sexual comments. There is an element here that male bloggers do not have to deal with. And while I make no claim that this is a factor in the above situation, I do find it a little strange that the idea hasn’t even been brought up, except to say that she claimed some sexist things were said. It also reminds me of the way people will stop a debate by turning the argument away from the issues and onto how the feminist is acting–make the argument about her rather than the issues. But that’s merely a passing thought.
I mean, it’s her blog and it’s really not that big of a deal. Honestly, if you feel that strongly about being heard, start your own blog. Going into someone else’s place and getting into flame wars with them is just a waste of your time. In fact, it’s a little . . . odd. Shall I say . . . squirrelly?
Oh, man, I’m so sorry. I couldn’t help it. It was there and I thought it and . . . sigh. Nevermind.
