Sigh.

October 31, 2007 at 12:02 am (Comics, Feminism, Random)

Guess what? I thought Wizard magazine couldn’t get any worse. Well, I was wrong.

You know, it’s not enough to give lip service to the idea of the comic book industry reaching out to women. They actually have to change in ways that will bring more women into the mostly male comic geek world. But when the industry’s major publication decides to start calling itself “The #1 Men’s Pop-Culture Magazine!” then something tells me that they aren’t even trying. Talk about a major step backward, fellas. You know, I can overlook all the pictures of half naked women or the lame jokes about wanting to have sex with She-Hulk. I know that comic books are mainly a guy thing. But to have a magazine that I once subscribed to call itself a Men’s Magazine is too much. It’s like they’re not even trying to hide it, you know?

But then again, maybe it’s better to have the disdain for female comic book readers right out in the open instead of hidden among the articles about drooling over Jessica Alba and the lame jokes they use to turn attention away from the fact that they never have countdowns of the hottest superheroes, just the hottest super-heroines.

Another Pointless List

October 29, 2007 at 7:25 pm (Comics, Random)

So why do I keep reading them?

Anyway, here’s a list of the 50 most influential moments in comic book publishing history. At least, from one website’s point of view. Note: if you’re a comic book geek, you won’t be happy.

Comic book geeks can always find something wrong with a comic book list.

Are you sure about that? I mean, have you seen Fred Thompson?

Dude is undressing you with his old man eyes.

I’m Late Again

October 29, 2007 at 1:09 am (Comics, Feminism, Random)

But I just had to share this funny comic strip.

See? Isn’t that funny? She’s old and unattractive—we all know old woman aren’t attractive—and so, she’ll never be raped. Because rape is about sex and horniness, not power! And no older women are ever victims of sexual assault, even though an older woman might be an easier target. No. No, I say! This strip is hilarious—only feminazis would disagree!

Sigh.

I’m Confusing All My Rants!

October 29, 2007 at 12:51 am (Comics, Feminism, Random)

I know I’ve read this before but I can’t remember if I’ve linked to it here before. Since I’m too lazy to go back and see if I have, I’ll just link to it here. It’s a good little article about feminism in comics. And I’m pretty sure someone told me about it. And of course, I can’t remember who it was.

D’Orazio caused a stir a couple of years ago when she wrote about a meeting where male editors told her, “We need a rape.”

Happy Birthday

October 27, 2007 at 12:13 am (Random)

Woody Allen once said, “I was nauseous and tingly all over. I was either in love or I had smallpox.” That sums us up! Happy Birthday, Hubby.

Please, no one ever bring up this nice moment of mine again. Thank you.

Shocking!

October 27, 2007 at 12:13 am (Feminism, Random)

This blogger talks about the hazards of blogging while female.

Unfortunately, it’s becoming dangerous territory, not just for Christian women, but for all women.

We all get trolls. No big deal, right? It does become a big deal when you want to talk about issues but they flood your inbox with hate filled rants, which all seem to boil down to the idea that as a woman, you should keep your mouth shut. That’s why I changed this blog around and that’s why I’ve come close to just deleting it totally.

But, it’s just the Interwebzz, right?

I Have to Share

October 26, 2007 at 12:48 am (Books, Comics, Random)

Over at CBR, they found some one star Amazon reviews of some popular comic books. They link to an old article which mentions some one star reviews for books at Amazon. Man, I hope these are real. Some highlights:

Gone With the Wind (1936)
Author: Margaret Mitchell

“Well, it’s a girl’s world. The world of Gloria Steinem and the popular feminism, as distilled on TV (including CBC shows, not all fundamentalist Hollywood garbage) of my youth is GONE. Now the girls run the show. You’re not allowed to call them sluts. And it’s impossible to call them virgins. They’re all doing Rhett Butler. So what are they? Idiots… Hope you like the Gangstas. It’s what you deserve.”

The Grapes of Wrath (1939)
Author:John Steinbeck

“While the story did have a great moral to go along with it, it was about dirt! Dirt and migrating. Dirt and migrating and more dirt.”

The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe(1950)
Author: C.S. Lewis

“I bought these books to have something nice to read to my grandkids. I had to stop, however, because the books are nothing more than advertisements for “Turkish Delight,” a candy popular in the U.K. The whole point of buying books for my grandkids was to give them a break from advertising, and here (throughout) are ads for this “Turkish Delight”! How much money is this Mr. Lewis getting from the Cadbury’s chocolate company anyway? This man must be laughing to the bank.”

Lord of the Flies (1955)
Author: William Golding

“I am obsessed with Survivor, so I thought it would be fun. WRONG!!! It is incredibly boring and disgusting. I was very much disturbed when I found young children killing each other. I think that anyone with a conscience would agree with me.”
